Praying About Your Dating Life?
It is ironic for Christians that many singles will launch themselves into the dating realm without first applying one of the most basic tools at their disposal: Prayer. Do you want what is best and wise in your dating life? Do you genuinely want what is best for the people you may date? Then pray about it.
For the Christ-follower, prayer goes hand-in-hand with the dating pursuit. Singleness and dating are nothing more than another season of life and another type of life activity. When we pray relative to the dating context, it is generally a search for wisdom, guidance, direction, growth, focus, and circumstances. That is, we are aligning ourselves with God and seeking after him.
Paul wrote to the Philippians,
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 NIV
Prayer, however, is not a substitute for preparation and action—it is a complement to such things, perhaps even a precursor. Prayer doesn't alleviate a person of their responsibility to be a steward of themselves or to work diligently toward a goal, but it does help shift your focus away from self-serving ends and toward a healthy balance that includes service of God and others.
